Top 11 NEW Products of 2011

Alright gorgeous beauties!! I have been working long and hard on this list, trying to narrow it down to my very most top fave products of 2011. It wasn't easy, there were a LOT of amazing new products this year!!

This list is (kinda) in order of my very most fabulous fave-fave-fave item to my still pretty much mostly fabulous fave-fave-fave item, haha!

Okay so here we go:

1. Get a Handle On It Bag (Mag 9)

This bag was MADE for me. I know it. If someone sat down and said, "What kind of bag would make up a Melissa bag?" this would be it! It has handles, AND a strap. It has 3 outside pockets for "stuff" and the inside is ginormous! It's floppy and not too structured, and the leather is soooo incredibly soft it's like I've had this bag my whole life. And the details! OMG the details! I love the studs on the side, and the detachable charm thing-y. I have used a couple of other purses since this came out in August - BUT I always go back to this one. It was love at first sight!

2. Glammed Up Ring (Mag 9)

Okay, take a second and look at this ring. Really. LOOK. AT. IT. It is almost as long as my finger, it shines like the freakin top of the Chrysler building for pete sakes! Also - in an emergency I can imagine that this ring would literally knock someone's lights out. I can wear this to work or with jeans or with my pajamas if I really wanted to! It looks like it costs millions! I even wore this to a couple of weddings this summer, *sigh*.

3. High Steppin' Boots (Mag 9 - are you noticing a pattern? - my checkbook is still sore from this mag!)

I feel like I really don't have much to say here. Look at these boots, they are HOT! Comfy, stylish, and HOT. 'Nuff said.

4. Scene Stealer Necklace (also Mag 9)

Again, look at this! I wear this to work at least three times a week. And on the weekends! It's not as heavy as you would think and it looks so delicious with so many different things - really!

5. Totally Suitable Blazer (Mag 9 - last one!)

Again I love the versatility of this piece! I can wear it to work, school or the grocery store and I will always look pulled together! I actually wore this to my job interview for the amazing job I have now!

6. Divinely Draped Top (Mag 5)

I love this with the Totally Suitable Blazer! I love it with no jacket, it's so figure flattering and soft. I wore this in NYC for the sales meeting with the In the Trenches Jacket too! Every person I see this on makes it look like this top was made especially for them!

7. It's A Long Story Dress

This dress sold over 1 million pieces this year! First time that's happened with a mark. item. Its so long and comfy I just love the comfort factor. This is also something that could be dressed up or down and not to give away too much but there is a sister dress coming in 2012...*wink *wink.....

8. In the Trenches Jacket (Mag 2)

I love this jacket! It's so great with jeans, over a sun dress or with a tank underneath! I love the combo of the rough military style over something feminine. Though it's not the warmest jacket of all time, it's definitely seen a lot of use this year!

9. Lash All You Want (Mag 8 - I bet you were wondering where the make-up was, huh?)

If you are still looking for that perfect mascara - stop now, and buy this. It is lengthening and thickening and long wearing and it doesn't clump. Plus the bristles on the tip of the brush make it super duper easy to get the bottom lashes and the inner and outer corners of you eyes. I have used nothing else since we were given this in May at the NYC sales meeting.

10. Get Treatment (Mag 6)
This overnight treatment is a miracle. Yup. It is. You put it on your zit, let it harden and when you wake up your zit will be gone, or at least about half the size it was the night before. I don't know exactly how it works, but it works. And that's good enough for me.

11. Get Defensive SPF 15 Eye Cream (Mag 8)

If you are not using an eye cream, have fun with those crow's feet and lines. For real. This eye cream has SPF for that ever so sensitive eye area, it's moisturizing and it will help get rid of lines and dark spots. Something else I can't be without.

**Honorable Mention**

Conceal For Real (Mag 8)

This concealer is a must have for your makeup bag. It covers whatever you want to hide and covers it for at least 12 hours. I use this on zits, redness and sometimes under my eyes. The applicator is great, although I always use a concealer brush to blend. And the consistency is not to greasy and not too dry.

Whew! That was hard! There are so many great products from mark. - and don't you think the awesomeness stops on December 31st either! I am peeing in my pants about a collaboration with Rebecca Minkoff and a new maxi dress, and scents...oops! I've said too much ;-)

12 Days of mark. Days 4-7

Hello there Lovelies!!

I apologize for the delay between posts - it's finals time and today is my very last day of school!!

So here are four fab-tastic mark. gifts that any gal would be thrilled to get!

Day Four:

Glitz & Gloss Mini Purse & Go $14

This adorable coin purse comes with 4 mini lip glosses that attach to a key chain on the coin purse. You get lotus luxe, girly girl, sweet talk, and sun luxe which are great neutral colors that will work on most skin tones. This would be a great Secret Santa gift, or a great gift for your high school aged niece!

Day Five

Pear Blossom Gift Set $28 (a $40 value!)

This scent is new for the holidays and it smells very fresh and clean! You get the Three's a Charm body wash, Get Misty body spray and Whipped Up body butter AND the new midi glam cosmetic bag, wow! Another great gift for your BFF, sister, mom, aunt or grandma - who doesn't want to smell good, right!

Day Six

Juice Gems Gift Set $16 ($34 Value!)

This is a fantastic set for Secret Santa! You could give them a different gloss for four days and then the bag on Friday! You get the new mini Slither bag (this is so stinking cute!), Juice Gems in Raspberry, Pomegranate, Honeydew and Fig. All colors are sheer, and are flavored to match their names. This is another great gift for a BFF or high schooler.

Day Seven:

Main Squeeze Lip Gloss $10 each

Do you need stocking stuffers? How cute are these?!? They come in three flavors - cherry, honey and papaya. Again they are all sheer and work on any skin tone. You squeeze the middle of these to get the gloss out, and these are limited edition so better get them before they are gone! My fave is the papaya one ;-)

All items are available for purchase on www.mymarkstore.com/mtrost

Twelve Days of mark. Day 3

Hello Lovelies!! It's Day of the Twelve Days of mark.

I need a moment to confess something - I haven't started shopping yet. Nope not one thing even. I DID bake cookies and send out cards and decorate the house and tree. But then it stopped. Soooo I am hoping to generate a little motivation for myself this morning too! I hope you are all in better shape than me :-)

Okay so here's Day 3's item:

That's So Clutch Deal $38  (a $61.50 value)

Us lucky mark. Reps got this deal a month or so ago and I have to tell you this is definitely going to be in my top 11 Products of 2011 post in a couple weeks. First of all if you haven't already tried Lash All You Want - get your sweet cheeks off the couch and order this, stat! It is hands down one of the top 5 mascaras of all time (according to me anyway)!!! It makes your lashes full and thick and long and dark and amazing and a lot of other really great stuff. It comes in a couple different color choices but I recommend black.

Next it comes with a Juice Gem in Snow Peach. I love Juice Gems I swear to you that I have one in almost every color. While I will be honest and tell you that Peach isn't my favorite flavor of anything I know a lot of people love it. Juice Gems are very sheer and moisturizing, they look great day or night and I truly think this particular color is flattering on every skin tone and would be age appropriate for the Tween in your life too!

On the Dot in Neutral. Some of you may remember that we have an On the Dot Color compact too. I really liked the old one - but I am pretty boring with eye color I tend to stick to browns (plus I have blue eyes so browns are great to accentuate that). And I.FREAKIN. LOVE. THIS. I have used it EVERYDAY for the last month and I can't tell you enough about it! It has 9 different neutral shades and you can create everything from an everyday office look to a smoky sexy mama look for nighttime! The colors are very pigmented and long lasting (add a little primer - like mark.'s Please Hold - for even longer lasting effects!)

And last but not least, the Clutch. First let me tell you - the inside is leopard print!! My FAVE! It has slots for cards and a picture slot for and ID and in the middle a zippered compartment for money. It's meant to be a wallet and I truly have been using mine for about 3 weeks now. It's so great! I can get my phone, gloss and wallet related essentials in here. I just transfer it between my work tote and school bag and my purse! Super cute. I actually used it as my purse for awhile because I got tired of carrying around my big bag. You will love this I promise.

Gift Tip: You could easily split this up into 3 stocking stuffers and 1 present. Or you could give the whole set to your BFF, sister in law, sister, mother, aunt, even grandma! Or don't forget that other hard working person in your life: YOU!

Whoever you choose to gift this to, you can rest assured that it will be a hit!

Twelve Days of mark. Days 1 & 2

Hello beauty world!! So in case you were wondering I did NOT fall off the face of the earth! Nope, but I am one day away from completing my Bachelor's Degree, woo hoo! So I've been a little busy and this blog has been neglected as a result.

I apologize :-)

BUT to make up for it, I have not one, but TWO gift ideas for you today!

1. Sassy mark. Fragrance set $28
This is my first love of mark. fragrances. It smells soft and feminine and is one of those fragrances that you want to nuzzle in and smell more of. And the purse. Good Lord the purse. It's tiny - but FABULOUS!!!! You can get all your essentials for a night out (or a last minute shopping dash) in here. The strap is meant to be worn long across your body, but you can shorten it and make it a shoulder bag too!
Gift Tip: to really maximize your gift giving dollars split this into two gifts!

2. Fair Trade Clean Up Time Conditioning Bath Soaps $12 (set of 3)
So are you going to a holiday party or two this season? Did you remember to get something for the hostess? Well here's your solution: Give your hostess a little bath soap with some wine or cookies and you will be the best guest EVER!
Gift Tip: This is a set of three so you spend $12 and you have 3 separate hostess gifts.
Bonus tip: I put these out in my bathroom when we have guests in case they forgot their own soap ;-)

And one more little bonus:

When you spend $30 you can buy one of these 3 items for only $10!!!! OMG right! You can get an extra gift or a treat for yourself! My pick: the Something Wild Purse (it's adorable and at $10 you're saving 68%!)

Holiday Shopping Kick-Off: Top 10 Gifts to Get You Started!!

Well, like it or not, it is officially the holiday season!!!! I know this because I just saw the Hershey's Kiss Jingle Bell commercial and (for me) that signifies the official countdown to Christmas!

So to kick off this crazy-emotional-awesomely-amazing time of year I thought I would help you out (oh don't worry you are so welcome!) with some gift giving ideas to jump start your list :-)

These are in no particular order and fall in a number of price ranges so here we go:

1. Jewel Gift Set $32 ($42 value!)

Jewel is one of my favorite mark. fragrances. It has caramel and vanilla notes in it and smells delicious. The bag that comes with is small, but perfect for going out and not wanting a big bag. I can fit my phone, cards, lipgloss and camera in this bag without a problem. The bag has a chain strap that is meant to be worn across the body, but you can shorten it for a shoulder handle option too. This bag is very well made and has a lock closure, and it so very much reminds me of the lovely Chanel bag I will own...one day.

2. Juice Gems Gift Set $16 ($34 value!)

This set comes with 4 (!) juice gems in Fig, Raspberry, Honeydew and Pomegranate AND you get the NEW cosmetic bag which is awesome for carrying in your purse or work tote. Each of the Juice Gems provide moisturization (hello winter chapped lips!) and a hint of color and a juicy flavor that matches the names. This would be a fab gift for a niece or young person in high school, or a co-worker or your BFF. You could also give the bag as a gift and use the Juice Gems for stocking stuffers...the possibilities are endless!

3. Showcase Color and Clutch To Go $20

Another multi-functional present! The make-up in this clutch is very wearable and universally flattering. The recipient of this gift could create many party looks to take her through the holiday season and beyond. And when the make-up wears out (or whenever) you can remove the make-up inserts and use this as an actual wallet! I like to use mine as a business card holder. (This would be a great treat for yourself too!)

4. Close Knit Infinity Scarf $30

This scarf is an awesome cold weather accessory! You can wear it long or looped around your neck to stay extra warm. It comes in taupe (pictured) and dusty blue which is grey-ish. When I was walking around campus yesterday I wished I had this! This would be a great gift for mom, grandma, auntie, cousin, etc. There is also a matching hat and glove set that you can get as well.

5. Lemon Sugar and Pear Blossom Sets $28 each (each set is a $40 value!)

Each set includes a body butter, body wash and body mist AND the NEW purple midi cosmetic bag! For $28!!! Lemon Sugar is one of mark.'s signature scents and it smells exactly like it sounds - yummy! Pear Blossom is new and limited edition for the holidays. I have the Pear Blossom body wash and it smells so good! This would be a great set to give pretty much anyone on your list!

6. Glitz and Gloss Set $14

OMG Holy mini cuteness Batman!!! This little set comes with 4 mini lipglosses in Girly Girl, Lotus Luxe, Sun Luxe and Sweet Talk AND this super adorable coin purse! I can fit my id in here too! Perfect for a night out! I know a lot of you may have different ideas about this, but this is something I would have LOVED when I was like 10 - I would not have been allowed to wear the gloss out of the house (oh but I would have tried!), but this would make a great gift for the tween in your life, or your BFF also a secret Santa gift too!

7. Main Squeeze Lip Gloss $10

Truth time: when I first saw these I was like, meh, whatever. BUT then I had the chance to see them in person at a meet up and they are so stinkin cute! Each gloss has a snap off top and you squeeze the center circle part to get the gloss out; they come in Honey, Papaya, and Cherry. Essentially these are Juice Gems in different packaging. Great for stocking stuffers, or little gifts for cousins, hair stylists, nail techs, etc.

8. Mini Brush Set $16

I have blogged about these before, and I love them! This set is new for the holidays, comes with the little zip around case, and 5 brushes. You get a lip, eye shadow, concealer, powder and eyeliner brush with these, and do not be fooled by their size! These brushes are amazing! I use the concealer brush everyday and the powder brush is great for on the go touch ups. I have these in my purse and another set in my work tote! Love them!

9. Winging It Earrings $16 each

These earrings come in black/gold and fuschia/hematite. I have the fuschia ones for me and won a pair of the black ones. I. Love. These! So cute! Perfect for you BFF, sister, cousin, or niece! These go with a variety of other mark jewelry (check out my site: www.mymarkstore.com/mtrost). Also another great gift for yourself!!

10. Scene Stealer Necklace $36

I have been blabbing about this necklace since I first saw it in May at the NYC Sales meeting (check out the video: http://youtu.be/CL9zhAjFQUc). This is THE statement necklace to own! Every time I wear this I get compliments. Women (and men) of all ages flip for this necklace. Such a great piece you can wear out, to work, to get the groceries. It's like an accessory for everything in your wardrobe. I wear this at least twice a week. Get this for your mom, your boss, yourself, your BFF, your aunt, who ever, just get it, lol!

Fall TV Shows I am super amped about!!

Hey everyone!! So here's one of those posts that isn't about beauty (hey I do enjoy other things in life besides lip gloss and mascara!)

I thought I would take a minute and share with you some of my fave new TV Shows this fall, there's so many new good ones out there!

1. Two Broke Girls: Monday nights on CBS at 7:30 PM (central time). I really didn't think I would care too much for this past the first episode. It's about a sassy pants waitress who meets up with a newly broke and homeless heiress who needs a job. They not only become co-workers but roommates and business partners too. While the first episode was funny and mostly enjoyable;  I have been slowly drawn back again and again to watch each week. I love this :) It's hilarious and the two main characters are great! There are some really great one-liners in this and I seriously crack up watching each episode. It might not be the best written most intellectual show out there, but it's 30 minutes of mindless fun and I can't wait to see what happens next!

2. Revenge: Wednesday nights ABC 9:00PM (central time). Um, this could be my favorite new show of Fall 2011. I just hope it doesn't get stupid. So if you haven't checked this out it's the story of a little girl who's dad was falsely accused of a crime and as a result the dad died and the little girl went through "the system". Now she's all grown up and has a plan to get back at the people who ruined her life and her dad's name. It. Is. Awesome. I mean pee your pants awesome! It reminds me of 90210 (the original pre-college good cast in the early 90's), Days of Our Lives (without lame ass Hope and evil Stefano and make me puke Marlena), and  like some other totally awesome shows that escape me at the moment because I am so excited about this show. You need to watch it, it's on tonight and this episode is supposed to be "the game changer"! The cast is great and well acted, and it gives people a glimpse of a life that makes whatever complicated mess you have going on seem not so bad. Ugh, LOVE this!

3. This is my surprise favorite TV show of the season. Person of Interest, CBS Thursday nights - possibly around 8ish, I can't remember off the top of my head. Okay so here's the bottom line, the main guy (pictured above) reminds me of Tony - if he were an ex-spy turned anonymous-kind of-superhero. He's hot, bottom line, and he's a good actor. And if I were in trouble I would be so lucky if someone like that helped me out. Whew! Okay so the main character is an ex-spy recruited by an ex-government employee who has some kind of high tech super fancy data that tells him when someone is in trouble, the twist is we don't know if that person is the bad guy or the good guy and what specifically the trouble is that they are in. It's really interesting and fun to watch, I highly recommend checking it out.

Other faves back for a new season:

NCIS Los Angeles: Chris O'Donnell + LL Cool J = Sweet. Jesus! Tuesday CBS 8:00 PM Central Time

NCIS (regular) Tuesday nights CBS 7:00 PM Central Time. Love this show. Love it

The Big Bang Theory: Thursday nights, CBS 7:00PM Central time. If you have not seen this show, please go into the nearest bathroom, look in the mirror and slap the person you see upside the back of their heads. Then on Thursday night watch it! You will laugh until you cry and then laugh some more.

What are your TV faves this fall? How about all time fave tv show ever??? (Mine, BTW, is Friends)

Handbag Mania!!!

For those of you who know me, you know how I feel about handbags. I am addicted to them, I need them, and I always have! I would buy a new handbag because its Saturday at 1:30 and that's enough for me, ha! I don't typically buy expensive bags (about a $30 or so maximum) because I switch them out frequently. However, that doesn't mean I don't lust after some of those higher end luxury bags...hello Chanel, how much do I love you???

Anywhoo thought I would share a few bags that I am drooling over right now. All three of them are mark. and all but one is currently available. Seriously. I freakin love these bags so much I would carry all three of them at a time if I could, lol!

1. mark. Get a Handle on It Bag ($60 - I know it's more than I said I spend BUT look at it....)

It is SUCH a MEL bag! Seriously it's so rocker chic and bad ass I can't take it! We got a preview of this in May at the NYC sales meeting and I was so amped for this bag that I could hardly stay in my seat! It has two tiny exterior pockets that really zip (I keep gum and business cards in them) a larger top exterior zip pocket (which is PACKED with lip gloss!) and then a large interior compartment with a zip top closure. Also inside, are two slip pockets (cell phone and sun glasses) and a back zip pocket. The little dangly charm deal comes off if that's too much for you and it has a detachable shoulder strap. Ugh, love at first sight fo sho. Even my mom has this bag!

2. mark. Chain Charm Bag ($46 - again over the price range I usually buy BUT I won this...)

Sweet holiday awesomeness Batman! LOVE!!!! This is such a bold bright red bag, you guys are going to flip! I won this as part of a mentor in training challenge for mark. And I couldn't be happier with it! It zips shut, there are again two slip pockets inside and a back sip pocket. On the front exterior there is a little pocket and the dangly charm (I'm pretty sure) detaches. The color of this bag is perfect for the holiday season and it's so chic and classic looking (reminds me of my darling Chanel) P.S. this bag will be available the beginning of November, stay tuned!

3. mark. Something Wild Purse ($32 - see I can stay on budget!)

Okay so this bag is Ah-dorable!!! It has one exterior pocket, two interior slip pockets and the back zip pocket; it also zips shut. I used this bag at a couple of weddings and special occasions we attended this summer, and I love using it just for running errands or really whenever. It's smaller than the other two bags so you can't bring as much, but that's kind of nice because it makes you think about what you really need to bring with you when you head out. It's faux suede and it really looks very expensive and I love to see the look on people's faces when I tell them it's mark! This would be a super fun bag to take out on a girl's night out...hmmm...I should plan one of those!

Okay and just for fun, IF I could I would love to wear this bag, sleep with this bag and snuggle with this bag:

Ugh, sigh! One day......

Apologies and Make-Up Bag Essentials

Okay so first off I need to apologize. I normally do a Monday Morning Review post, but with the new job it's just not going to happen until later in the day. More like a Monday Afternoon Review ;-)

I have blogged about my fave products, and go-to products and products I love, love, love. But today I wanted to talk about a few products that are what I would call my "essential" items. Maybe my "first-aid kit" of make-up bag items, if you like.

I love reading magazine spreads about celebrities and their make-up must-haves, or the "What's in You Bag?" articles (side note: I have a You Tube Channel with a What's in Your Bag video. Side, side note: it's not that great but check it out anyway, it was the first video I have ever made.)

So to start, let's get a bag:

mark.'s new midi glam cosmetic bag (I love the color!) is a great basic size. It will fit easily in a tote, backpack, or purse. It also looks good by itself, carried as a clutch. It's a mid size bag so, not huge but bigger than the little bag for lip stuff only. It's plastic on the inside so if you have a spill it's easy to clean up.

Essential Item #1:

Cheat Sheets are oil blotting tissues that you can use throughout the day to get rid of excess oil and shine. This also helps to avoid powder overload (which looks stupid and wastes product). I actually have a pack of these in all 3 bags I use each week and it's usually the first thing to go in my make-up bag.

Essential Item #2

Make it Go Away wipes are awesome. Period. They can be used to wash your face at night in place of your cleanser. They remove eye make-up, I know people who have used them as baby wipes. I have used them when leaving the hair salon to get stray hair-dye spots off of my face. These are just a great essential item to have along because you never know when you might need them. In a pinch I also use these to clean my make-up brushes.

Essential Item #3:

Speaking of brushes...these are brand new for the holiday season (our regular ones have a brown case). These brushes are amazing. You would think that because they are small that they won't be as good, wrong! Each brush does exactly what it is supposed to do, and works just a well as a full size brush and in some cases better (concealer brush for example or the powder brush).

Essential Item #4:

Alright let me start off with addressing the obvious, these are not the best pair of tweezers out there. They aren't super sharp or pointy and they are small. BUT they can still pluck a random eyebrow hair, remove a sliver and I have been told that hairdressers can use them to remove hair splinters (which I didn't know you could get and I apologize if anyone has gotten one from me). And this product is a hook-up, so it can literally hook-up to another mark lip gloss, mascara, concealer, you name it. There are over 7500 hook-up combinations!

Essential Item #5:

mark. hook-up eye gel is perfect for taming unruly brows. I use this product everyday on my brows and it really keeps them in place and looking great! I hook it up to the tweezers above and carry it everywhere.

Essential Item #6:
All right, let's face it. We all have imperfections, I mean who doesn't have dark circles, the occasional zit or other spots they want to cover up?? This concealer is long lasting and it really covers. Anything you want to hide is easily hidden with the use of this little wonder. It is also a hook-up so you can add it to any other mark hook up product and simplify things!

BTW all hook-up products are full size, they just scale down the packaging to make it more portable.

So these are my staple/essential/required make-up items for my bag. Do you have any items you just can't leave home without??

All items listed above are available on my website at www.mymarkstore.com/mtrost

Love mark. products? Want to earn free product? The Monday Morning Review: Oh Wait, It's Tuesday...

Hey there fellow beauty addicts! If you are a regular follower of this blog you are probably wondering where I have been the last week, right?

Well school has started and things are crazy as usual, especially since this is my last semester, but more exciting than that is: I. GOT. A. JOB.  Yes that's right and brand spanking new job! It's been just about a week, and I LOVE it!! Seriously, everyone is super nice, and I love that it's downtown St. Paul! It makes me feel like I'm in NYC or something, haha! And to add tot he NYC feel, I'm in the Empire Building.

Along with the new job comes work clothes, shoes and work make-up! Since I have to get up so very (ridiculously) early I have a few fave products that are my "go-to" products for early morning prep. I thought I would share those with you today :-)

Conceal for Real. I've blogged about this before, and I am serious when I tell you I love it and you need it. This concealer is long lasting and covers everything from skin discoloration and redness to dark circles! And because it's a hook-up it's super portable and can stash easily in your work tote.

Mattenificent Powder. Absorbs oil, and helps my face look fresh and not oily all day long! Love this product.

Mosaic Blush in Hush Baby. I love this blush! I am always reaching for it every morning. It gives my face such a nice glow of color and it's not overly shimmery (I don't work as a dancer I can skip the glitter on my face, heeh). Having several different shades to blend together really helps make my face look awake and fresh.

Lash All You Want is an amazing mascara! If I don't have time for eye make-up I make sure to use this because it lengthens and volumizes and gives me that drama that I crave for my lashes. It comes in 4 shades too, so you can mix it up a little!

Usually if I have time I will put on some gloss, but if all else fails I just wear chapstick and hit the road!

All of the above products are from mark. and are available at www.mymarkstore.com/mtrost

Do you have any "go-to" makeup items for work or school??
